I can offer you real performance opportunities, competing in competitions, being a member of a choir, and being involved in musicals. With over 15 years experience in music performance and education, I can help you achieve any goals that you have for yourself in the field of music.
I will cater lessons to each individuals needs, whether you are a young beginner picking up a violin for the first time, or an adult who has finally decided to get those singing lessons you have been longing for. I can also help prepare you for AMEB/Trinity music exams, school music exams, or teach you that new song you just heard on the radio for fun. I can take you down whichever musical path you choose.
Samara Marinelli started teaching in 2007 whilst at the University of Queensland studying a dual degree, Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Education majoring in Viola. Samara has a great interest in developing the musical skills of her students, and helping them to achieve their musical goals. Samara is regularly educating herself to better her teaching skills, and is currently partaking in further education and professional development.
In 2016, as well as teaching students privately, Samara is employed as a Strings Tutor at Ipswich Grammar School and as a Senior Tutor with the Australian Girls Choir. Samara has previously taught at A.B. Paterson College, Hillcrest College, Northpine Christian College and Bethany Lutheran Primary School. Samara has also taught group music and singing at many dance schools in the Ipswich and Gold Coast regions, and has worked as a Musical Director for Brisbane musical theatre companies.
Samara also regularly performs as a musician and singer, playing Viola with the Brisbane based ADY Ensemble, singing in her self-devised show at the 2015 Queensland Cabaret Festival at the Judith Wright Centre, and as a guest singer at the Ipswich season of Women in Voice at the Ipswich Civic Centre.
What do I teach?
Samara teaches violin, viola and voice. All disciplines are taught with a classical grounding, with emphasis on a healthy technique. With voice, classical, musical theatre and crossover styles are taught. Samara does not teach modern R'n'B, Heavy Rock, Pop or Hip Hop.
How do I teach?
Samara teaches individual students weekly in one-to-one lessons. Group lessons are not offered, but Samara does coaching for groups, ensembles and choirs.
The needs of each individual student are taken into consideration, taking many aspects from various teaching methods, and applying them as necessary. Modern technology is also utilised, including recording of lessons and watching of Youtube clips. Mirrors are also utilised to help aid in posture.
Who do I teach?
Anyone with an active interest in music! Students range in age from 4 to 70+. It is never too late to start. Some students learn to develop a skill, while others want to develop a professional career in music, whether it is performing, teaching or something else. All students are expected to perform regularly, whether it is at studio concerts, competitions, eisteddfods or with community groups. Students are also highly encouraged to take part in exams.
Students are expected to practise regularly and to learn their music quickly, and to develop a professional approach to learning. Young students need the help of their parents to make this possible and it is requested that parents keep track of student’s practise regime and exam or performance preparation. Open communication and discussion with parents is encouraged.
