About Me

Hi there!

My name is Jack.

Currently, I am studying a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Melbourne. I completed a Bachelor of Science (Medical Science) at the University of Sydney with a GPA of 6.95 out of 7. I completed my year 12 studies in 2019 with an ATAR of 97.35.

I have been a tutor for 4 years now. This began at the end of year 11 after completing mathematics a year early. Since then, I have tutored a very wide range of students, including primary school students, high school students, HSC students, GAMSAT students, and undergraduate science students through my role as a casual academic at the University of Sydney.

During my experiences, I have learned and tested many different tutoring modalities and strategies to find the most effective methods of tailoring my teaching style to the individual needs of the student. This varies significantly from student to student, depending on the level of knowledge and the subject area, but I have found success in tutoring students in almost every aspect and every stage of mathematics, science, and medical school entry.

School tutoring ($80/hour):
For school students, I offer tutoring on a range of science and math subjects. I have had experience tutoring students from year 2 students with learning difficulties all the way up to high-performing extension mathematics students in year 12. I only offer tutoring services on the subjects that I am confident in, performed well in myself, and that I am up to date on the current syllabus and content. These include:
- High School Mathematics (ANY level, extension, advanced, etc.)
- High School Chemistry
- High School Biology
- High School Physics
- Primary School Mathematics
- Primary School Science

University/Medicine applicants ($80/hour):
For university students and prospective medical students, I offer a range of services and can adapt to your specific needs. I have been there before, and understand how confusing and overwhelming undergraduate studies and medical school applications can be. I have been able to help undergraduate Medical Science students through my role as a casual academic at the University of Sydney, where I had the opportunity to be a demonstrator and tutor for some of the undergraduate Medical Science subjects in Human Biology, Anatomy and Histology. I have gathered a wealth of knowledge on how to adapt to learning at university and how to excel in the Graduate Medical School Admissions Test (GAMSAT) that earned me a 98th percentile score. I offer the following services:
- Undergraduate Science/Medical Science tutoring (Biology, Chemistry, Physiology, Anatomy, Histology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Immunology)
- Undergraduate First-year Mathematics tutoring
- GAMSAT tutoring (particularly for section 3)
- Medical school interview preparation

A key mistake made by many talented medical school applicants is neglecting preparation for the interview. People think that they can not prepare for the interview which could not be further from the truth. I believe the interview is the most important aspect of your application and therefore, it should require a lot of effort and attention in order to make your application as strong as possible. Alongside, regular interview prep tutoring, I also offer a 2-hour mock medical school interview. The first hour will consist of you sitting the mock interview with me, in the exact format that you will experience on the day. During this time I will be taking notes on your performance. Then, the following hour will be spent breaking down your responses and providing personalised feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of your interview. This mock interview will allow you to be far more comfortable and therefore confident in the real interview. This 2-hour mock interview will be at a discounted rate of $75/hour ($150 for the full 2 hours). What would you say if someone asked you what the best way is to prepare for a test? I know I would say the best way is to practice with accurate mock tests beforehand.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, I transitioned my tutoring to online calls. I was worried about the transition as I thought it may be a less effective method of tutoring, however I was very wrong. Students can save notes that were made from the session on their device which became very convenient for future reference. Additionally, for the students, the convenience of not having to leave the house and the increasing prevalence of online exams meant that students found it easier and more convenient to do tutoring online. Many of my students decided to stay with online sessions, rather than return to face-to-face sessions. Therefore, my services are offered predominantly online via zoom. However, arrangements can be made for in-person sessions.

Please send me a message if you have any questions or would like a chat.

I really look forward to meeting you!

Cheers,
Jack
