I am Josto, Italian, 30 years old. I am currently a PhD candidate at the department of Cultural Studies, at the University of Sydney.
I am certified teacher of Italian as Second Language, but I have also experience tutoring English and Chinese.
I have tutored kids in Italy for about one year, and worked in China in a kindergarten and primary school for about two years, teaching Italian, English, and Arts. Between 2014-2015 I have lived in Laos PDR, teaching English and Chinese to both adults and children. I have experience with one to one lessons and with bigger classes as well.
When teaching to children, I mostly use games and activities that allow the kids to play and learn at the same time. Among the activities that I use there are videos, drawings, board games, mostly designed to develop all of the 4 basic skills (writing, reading, listening and speaking). I support these activities with the use of the body and the space (for example matching a specific word with an action, or performing a song with movements), because it greatly helps enhancing the memory. I also encourage them to speak at all times, but adapt to their pace in order to make them feel at ease.
With adults, I also create fun activites that can keep the attention active at all times, giving the opportunity to students to speak and practice the language as much as possible during the class period. Among these activities, there are games, story puzzles, compositions, songs, videos, and many other exercises that further allow students to put the content into practice in a fun and relaxed environment.
I will be happy to respond to any question that is not addressed in this brief presentation.

English for beginners, intermediate and advanced levels. While beginners and intermediate classes aim to develop the 4 communicational skills (speaking, listening, writing and reading), the advanced class is designed more for students who want to improve their writing skills (essays, dissertations, stories, journal articles).
Chinese classes offered for beginners. Each class engages with the 4 communicational skills (writing, listening, reading and speaking).
Learn Italian with fun and interactive activities. Each class is designed to develop all of the 4 communicational skills (reading/comprehension, speaking, listening and writing). For each activity, you will be working on different skills and increasingly feel confident in using the language to achieve your communicational goals. The classes cover cultural aspects and are supported with homework that you are required to send me before the following class, so that I can have the time to make corrections if needed and avoid using the time during the class to go over the homework.
