Bonjour à toutes et à tous/Hallo zusammen!
I'm Angela and I graduated from Presbyterian Ladies’ College in 2017 with an ATAR of 99.75 and raw study scores of 45 in French and 46 in German. In my VCE, I studied German, French, English, Chemistry, Specialist Maths and Maths Methods (Year 11), receiving the academic excellence awards for French and German in my cohort. My internal SAC score was 99/100 for both languages before standardisation, and I achieved scores of 100/100 in my VCE German oral exam and 99/100 in my VCE French oral exam. Furthermore, I was a state finalist in both the oral and written disciplines of the Alliance Française Berthe Mouchette language competition for three consecutive years (perfect scores in all oral exams), and received third state prize in Year 11 and fourth state prize in Year 12 for my essay.
I am now studying modern languages at the University of Melbourne (H1 in all subjects, 88 WAM). I have been tutoring since 2018, both privately and from volunteering with the Student Welfare Outreach Team as part of the Melbourne Uni Health Initiative. I am open to tutoring both VCE and IB French and German students, or primary school and secondary school students in younger year levels, from beginners to advanced levels.
I'm flexible and supportive, tailoring lessons, explanations and exercises to target each individual student’s learning style, pace, goals and weaknesses. I develop students’ competencies in the four key areas of language throughout the year - speaking, writing, listening and reading - whilst also introducing topic-specific and general vocabulary, and honing in on grammatical gaps identified. As well as ensuring that grammar, syntax and conjugations in various tenses become second nature, I focus on developing an instinct for the intricacies and nuances of expression in the language that sets the discerning student apart, as well as inculcating effective language learning techniques and strategies. Through regular conversation practice, I expose students to potential questions they may face in SACs and in both sections of the final oral exam, and train them to combine well-rehearsed answers with spontaneity and flexibility to address the specificities of the question at hand.
Success in a VCE language relies heavily not only on strong foundations, but also on strategy, memorisation, and knowing what the examiners want to hear and read. I am thus willing to provide you with the numerous resources I have written and collected that enrich essays and written/oral exam answers, such as lists of structural phrases, idioms and colloquialisms that add authenticity and grammatical breadth, my General Conversation and Detailed Study oral exam scripts, sample essays, and text type structure guides.
More importantly, I am passionate about instilling a love of language acquisition into others, and encouraging in students an intrinsic motivation to learn a life skill that will propel their personal life and career well beyond Year 12.
The VCE/IB era is a challenging and exciting time in your life, and I would love to help you through the journey!

As I live in the Melbourne CBD, I would prefer to tutor in the State Library, on campus at Melbourne Uni (Parkville) or at a café in the CBD. I am also open to home visits for a small extra charge. Prices are $40 an hour for individual tutoring or $25 per person for group tutoring.
